Abide with Me...
Intercession
Praying for another is a wonderful ministry in which we can all share. It is a sign of our dignity as children of God, called to share in the intercessory work of Christ. It is a prayer which can change others, and change ourselves. If we abide in Christ, he will accept the offering of our prayers and use them to bless and uphold the world.
-Br. Geoffrey Tristram Society of Saint John the Evangelist
So often praying for each other is all we can do, the best we can do, and as Brother Geoffrey says, it can change others and ourselves.
This morning I ask each of us to abide with Christ and pray for those who are sick and dying, afraid and anxious, rejoicing and loving, hungry and cold.
Name them aloud and know that Christ accepts our offerings. and as Jesus says in the beautiful hymn below, "I triumph still if thou abide with me."
Amen.
