The Majesty and Glory of Your Name

What are human beings, that you make so much of them,

that you set your mind on them, Job. 7. 19

Every couple of years when the lectionary cycle comes around to the Book of Job, I am reminded of this beautiful anthem. It is based on a line from the Job passage appointed for today as well as a line from Psalm 8. It is a simple anthem which our simple choir at Grace Episcopal Church was able to master and sing year after year as we struggled to bring the church back to life. We were led by two extraordinary musicians and joined by some accomplished singers, and we sang the best we could. It brings back so many precious memories of what a difference a small band of human beings can make in the world with God's help, when they accept that God has set God's mind on them!
